This exhibition included a selection of 10 Hands Crafts master crafts people mainly from West Cork Ireland who use several different natural materials to create their works such as;- bog oak wood turned bowls, painted ceramic plates, copper candlesticks, fused glass bowls and plates, ceramic paperclay bowls, copper etchings, handmade etching prints and stone carvings. This section brings a unique style to these crafts people who exhibit together internationally and in UK and Ireland
The 10 Hands Crafts Exhibition also includes short film: "Ballydehob - The Home of Craft"
Ballydehob is a small village in County Cork in the South West of Ireland known since the 1960’s for its special handcrafted artworks. We made a short film called “Ballydehob – The Home of Craft” which looks at 60 years of hand craft in Ballydehob, where hundreds of Artists and Crafts people have been coming to live and work since the 1960’s, attracted by the beautiful countryside, quality of life and affordable house prices
“In this 30 minute documentary Angela Brady talks to Brian Lalor curator of the Ballydehob Arts Museum’s first permanent craft collection starting with works of Christa Reichel potter and Nora Golden batik artist of Gurteenakilla Pottery in 1960’s. Angela then visits the ‘Working Artist Studios’ to look at the #CorkCraftMonth exhibition by Cork Craft and Design with contemporary crafts artworks by Linda Taylor, Bernadette Tuite and Jim Turner’s who’s work is discussed with gallery owner Paul O’Colmain – who also contributed his music. Angela then meets some locally based artists to inform us about their work including Leda May potter, Noelle Verling potter - originally of Brushfire Pottery in Gurteenakilla. Angela talks to Rosemary Cavenagh basket maker and speaks to bespoke jewellers Patrick Roche – Goldsmith & Geraldine Thomas – Silversmith and finally a visit to Marie Anne Birken to see her silk weaving. Also included is the next generation of contemporary craft workers with Ayelet Lalor clay sculptor and Dualta O’Colmain metal sculptor”. It gives a flavour of an active craft village in West Cork
