China International Culture &Creative Exhibition, Hangzhou, China - Ireland Stand
In October 2024
we expanded our selection of 10 Hands to include 4 master glass designers from the Glass Society of Ireland #GSOI to join us in a very special exhibition in Hangzhou, China where Angela Brady was invited by the Hangzhou Government and the event promoters to launch the exhibition along with other leading exhibitors around the world. This year we promoted diversity & inclusion as part of our own show on the Ireland stand and included 4 of the #GlassRunway project collaborative fashion and glass project by GSOI.
Thanks to co curator of this exhibition Roisin de Buitlear of GSOI. (Further details/photos on Home page)
Our 10 Hands Crafts master crafts people base their contemporary designs on nature and the West Cork landscape which is surrounded by mountains and the Atlantic sea. We use 10 different materials + 10 different skills and often collaborate on craft works and learn new skills from each other
Summer 2024
we focused on Brian Lalor our 10 Hands master craftsperson, etcher, painter and author of many books. We made a video in situ at the West Cork Arts Centre, the Uillinn in Skibbereen during his special retrospective show during July-Oct 2024. Thanks to Cork Co Co Arts for sponsorship of film
There is a special energy in the rugged West Cork landscape, which inspires the creative minds who are working in a place that seems magical.
Since the early 1960’s West Cork has become home to a large number of artists, designers and crafts people. We share a fascination with the landscape, the swell and sweep of it’s contours and the unique quality of light
In 2019
we celebrate 40 years of Irish and Chinese diplomatic relations, so what a good time to progress ways of working together on crafts and ideas, coming together to celebrate and learn from each others
Cultures. We exhibited at China Craft Week Nov 2018 in Hangzhou, London Craft Week June 2019 and London Craft Week Oct 2021. We exhibited again in Hangzhou Oct 2024. We want to celebrate a special collaboration between Ireland and China.
During the 1960’s and 1970’s Ballydehob was at the centre of the creative community, which attracted people who were looking to join a fully-fledged Bohemian artist’s colony and an alternative lifestyle that continues today. Our short film “10 hands crafts” is part of our travelling exhibitions. It starts with our roots in “The Bohemians of Ballydehob’ exhibition, curated by Brian Lalor and moves on to what we are inspired by today - showing how our group make our crafts
We welcome future collaboration with craft partners and of sponsors to help make these events happen
